John Cena said he wasn’t going to compete at WrestleMania this year. That was until The Fiend challenged him on SmackDown.
In front of 80,000 people at the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, they would have had a match. But what we got instead, as Covid-19 rages on, was a cinematic masterpiece akin to the magic Undertaker and AJ Styles produced the night before.
The match started with Wyatt inviting Cena to come to his ‘world’ and step inside the Firefly Funhouse.
Once inside, Cena was taken on a journey through his career and supposed failings. Like his debut against Kurt Angle, for instance, where he displayed Ruthless Aggression.
Then it moved on to Cena finding his rap gimmick as the Dr of Thuganomics. Along the way, Wyatt kept talking about Cena being pretentious and a bad person, contrary to the image he projects.
Then Wyatt discussed how he wanted to ‘right the wrong’ of his loss to Cena at WrestleMania 30.
He appeared as his old cult leading Bray Wyatt character during this segment and talked about how Cena had ruined his momentum by beating him at that point because ‘the people wanted me’.
He also spoke about Cena’s heel teases down the years but never having the courage to go though with it, using Hulk Hogan’s NWO debut as an example, with Cena playing Hogan.
Finally, The Fiend appeared and took out the modern day John Cena. But, as he was doing it, he replayed Cena’s promo from SmackDown and in a beautiful twist, it turns out Cena was talking about himself, in the words of Wyatt.
The segment had split opinions online, but it made an impact for sure!
Before WrestleMania, Cena cut a promo on Wyatt where he claimed his foe was ‘entitled’ and WWE deleted that from their social channels.
“Bray’s going to get his ass handed to him.
“I’m in no mood to play around and I’m honestly kind of fed up with situations of people who think they are entitled to get chance after chance after chance to succeed.
“I’m sick of hearing a certain group of WWE superstars walk around and say, ‘I deserve this’ or ‘I deserve that’. Maybe Bray’s the first name on that list, I don’t know.”
