Justin Bieber came close to featuring in a match at SummerSlam in 2014, according to Paul Wight.
The pop sensation, 27, was supposed to team up with Wight, formerly known as The Big Show, and John Cena to take on the sinister Wyatt Family.
And the 49-year-old has claimed Bieber was ‘excited’ about stepping inside the ring at such a high-profile pay-per-view.
He told the Talk is Jericho podcast: “Years ago, I had worked out, for one of the SummerSlam’s in LA, with a very good friend who was working with Scooter Braun and Justin Bieber that it was going to be John Cena, The Big Show and Justin Bieber vs The Wyatts at SummerSlam.
“Bieber was on board. He was excited. He wanted to work out with John and I. This was a really, really big deal.”
However, the match never happened with WWE chiefs questioning if Bieber, who has sold over 150 million records, would connect with the live audience.
Wight explained: “One of the people that are making decisions said, ‘I just don’t see how Justin Bieber’s going to relate to our audience’.
“It’s like, does anyone not see the amount of eyes Justin Bieber would bring to that match? I think WWE offered to help promote his album.
“You’re dealing with [Bieber’s manager] Scooter Braun. Scooter Braun is all about cash, and they jacked Scooter around for about two weeks.
“And Scooter’s like, ‘listen, it’s not going to happen. I got the kid a million dollars to watch a soccer game, and they’re flying him down on a private jet.’”
In the end, Wight and Bieber were left off the SummerSlam card as Bray Wyatt defeated Chris Jericho and John Cena lost his WWE Championship to Brock Lesnar in the main event.
