It seems as though the veteran John Cena is already having a profound impact on the WWE locker room since his return.
On the same show Cena teamed up with Rey and Dominik Mysterio against Roman Reigns and The Usos, Cena made sure to watch the rest of the action that included Sami Zayn taking on Finn Balor.
Zayn revealed that the 16-time world champion had some very kind words for him after his match.
“John Cena watched my match with Finn Balor tonight in Fort Myers, FL and was raving about how great it was, and it made me feel good,” Zayn wrote on Twitter.
“To be fair, he was right to love it. We absolutely killed it.”
It’s no shock that Zayn and Balor could put on a banger, but Cena has always been more immersed in the product than other part-timers like Brock Lesnar or Goldberg etc.
Cena’s latest movie, The Suicide Squad, opened last weekend with lower than expected numbers.
It’s reported that the film drew $26.5 million at 4,002 theaters in the U.S. and was number one in the box office.
Even though it’s number one, it seems going to the cinema overall was down due to rising COVID-19 cases in the States. Against a budget of $185, the film has some work to do, but reviews have generally been positive.
Why is that news relevant? Because Cena’s drawing power in pro wrestling seems to be unaffected and is in fact showing very impressive trends since his return.
Dave Metlzer says a good chunk of tickets for live events have only shifted since it was announced Cena has been added to those shows.
“In kind of an amazing stat, 63 percent of the tickets for last night’s WWE show in Estero, FL were sold after the announcement of John Cena on the show.
“Thus far Cena’s name has led to anywhere from 18 to 63 percent new ticket sales, with Louisville, Milwaukee, Detroit and last night all having greater than 50 percent increases,” Meltzer said.
Cena will headline SummerSlam at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas against Roman Reigns for the Universal title where he could win a record-breaking 17th world title.
