What Brock Lesnar did with John Cena after SummerSlam went off-air following WWE return to confront Roman Reigns

Just after Roman Reigns managed to defeat John Cena in the main event of SummerSlam, Brock Lesnar made a shocking return to WWE

The Beast Incarnate’s music hit and the new-look Lesnar hit the ring to confront Reigns who is, of course, associated with Lesnr’s former manager, Paul Heyman.

Brock Lesnar targeted Roman Reigns right away

The battle of the Paul Heyman clients, Reigns and Lesnar, looks the likely destination given the staredown to close SummerSlam, but Reigns would exit the ring and retreat with Heyman by his side.

Reigns had just beaten Cena after a classic SummerSlam main event where the stipulation was if Reigns lost, he’d leave WWE.

Lesnar has history with both Reigns and Cena. After the show went off the air, Lesnar beat Cena down with a series of suplexes and F5s, reminiscent of their one-sided SummerSlam affair in 2014.

Lesnar hadn’t been seen on WWE TV since losing to Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania 36 in April 2020.

His contract with WWE expired shortly after and due to the company being in the pandemic and the former UFC heavyweight champion having no desire to leave his Canada-based farm, the two sides did not agree to a new deal.

However, it was always believed that they would work it out when fans could return to shows so it came as a surprise when Lesnar was not on WrestleMania 37.

However, the two sides have clearly worked out a deal now and while the details of the contact are not public, securing Lesnar, the biggest free agent left in pro wrestling, is a big coup for WWE.

Cena failed in his bid to become the first-ever 17-time world champion (at least in WWE), but he mentioned before the showdown with the Tribal Chief that he was planning on hanging around in WWE for a while.

His direction from here is not very clear, but Reigns and Lesnar could be heading for Extreme Rules next month or Saudi Arabia in October.

WWE also announced during SummerSlam that they would return to the Allegiant Stadium for July 4 weekend in 2022 to make Money in the Bank a stadium show for the first time.
