John Cena’s long-awaited return to WWE has been announced.
For the first time since 2002, John Cena went a full year without wrestling just prior to this year’s Royal Rumble, but he’s going to be back at the end of this month.
Cena is slated to return to SmackDown on February 28, the day after WWE has performed in Saudi Arabia for Super Showdown.
It seems as though the 16-time world champion will be involved on the road to WrestleMania and thus, have a match in Tampa, Florida on April 5.
Cena has made it clear recently that he was hoping to do that with WWE, despite his busy Hollywood schedule.
“Performing at WrestleMania this year would be a gift. I haven’t been intertwined in the machine of the WWE. I know those WrestleMania spots are few and far between. I’ve expressed that I’m off. But I’ve also expressed that I live in Tampa.”
Cena’s film career has taken off in the past couple of years and with roles in Fast and Furious 9 and the next Suicide Squad film.
However, the 42-year-old still has some performing he wants to do in WWE, even if he can’t do it full-time now.
The WrestleMania 36 card is far from complete, but we do have a general outline of what to expect.
Brock Lesnar will defend his Universal title against Royal Rumble winner Drew McIntyre.
Becky Lynch looks set to face Shayna Baszler. Woman’s Royal Rumble winner Charlotte Flair looks set to challenge NXT Women’s champion Rhea Ripley, with Bianca Belair possibly in that mix too.
It’s been thought for a long time that Roman Reigns will challenge The Fiend for the WWE title at WrestleMania, so where will Cena insert himself into the mix?
If he is returning to SmackDown, it has to be to challenge one of the top guys there.
Could he get involved in the WWE title hunt?
