WrestleMania 36 is less than two months away and things are really heating up for the card in Tampa, Florida.
It was announced earlier this week that John Cena will be making his return to WWE at the end of the month on February 28.
It seems like the 16-time world champion is heading for a WrestleMania match and he’s made no secret about his desire to make that happen.
“Performing at WrestleMania this year would be a gift. I haven’t been intertwined in the machine of the WWE,” Cena said.
“I know those WrestleMania spots are few and far between. I’ve expressed that I’m off. But I’ve also expressed that I live in Tampa.”
Cena has been away from WWE concentrating on his blossoming Hollywood career that has seen him introduced to the Fast and Furious franchise and land a role in the upcoming Suicide Squad sequel.
According to WrestleVotes, Cena is on a collision course with Goldberg at the Show of Shows, a match that has never happened before.
Roman Reigns is set to challenge The Fiend for the Universal title per this report, but it has also been said that they may switch gears and have Reigns face Goldberg and Cena taking on Bray Wyatt.
In either scenario, Cena could be challenging for his 17th world title.
Goldberg and Wyatt will meet at Super Showdown in Saudi Arabia with the gold on the line just one day before Cena returns to WWE.
Whichever of the two scenarios unfolds, those are two big time match-ups to feature on a WrestleMania card.
Put that alongside Becky Lynch vs Shayna Baszler that’s likely to happen as well as Drew McIntyre challenging Brock Lesnar and WrestleMania 36 is shaping up nicely.
Cena went a full year without wrestling in WWE for the first time since 2002 back in January, but he has maintained he has not retired.
