John Cena is one of the all-time great WWE superstars, but he has bee transitioning into Hollywood for the past few years.
The 16-time world champion signed on to feature in the Fast an Furious franchise earlier this year, but now he has agreed to join the sequel to Suicide Squad, too.
Those are two significant jobs for the 42-year-old to land and while he’s had moderate success in the movie business thus far, this is the next level.
Director James Gunn revealed on social media that John Cena will be among the cast members of the upcoming Suicide Squad sequel and while not confirmed, Cena has been rumored to be playing the Peacemaker role.
The Rock took a similar path and is now the highest-paid actor in the whole of Hollywood.
Rock had a few more leading roles by this point in his career, but he also entered Hollywood about a decade earlier in his wrestling career than Cena has.
Over the past 18 months, Cena has only appeared in WWE on sporadic occasions and at WrestleMania 35 this year, he came out and rapped in his old Thuganomics gimmick, but did not have a match.
The year before that, he lost to The Undertaker in an ‘impromptu’ matchup in under three minutes.
With more high profile roles, Cena will return to wrestling less and less and it’s now believed he will take The Rock route and focus firmly on Hollywood.
That’s not to say there won’t be a feud that excites him enough to return or an event he can be enticed to show up on, but his full-time wrestling days are all but done.
